SPN 174/FMI 0
SPN 174/FMI 0 indicates the Supply Fuel Temperature Sensor (SFT Sensor) high.
Check as follows:
- Turn the ignition ON (key ON, engine OFF).
- Plug in the diagnostic tool and read the active codes.
- If fault 174/3 is active in addition to 174/0, refer to "34.1 SPN 174/FMI 3" .
- If fault 174/4 is active in addition to 174/0, refer to "34.2 SPN 174/FMI 4" .
- If fault 111/1 is active in addition to 174/0, refer to section SPN 111/ FMI
- If only fault code 174/0 is active, go to the next step and repair or replace, as required.
- Check for coolant loss.
- Check for blockage in radiator and charge air cooler.
- Check fan belt condition (slippage).
- Check for proper location of fan shroud.
- Check for proper radiator hose condition (no collapsed hoses).
- Check for proper viscous fan operation
- Once checks and repairs are done, refer to "34.1.1 Verify Repairs" .
Section 34.1.1
Verify Repairs
Verify repairs as follows:
- Turn ignition OFF.
- Reconnect any electrical connections that were disconnected to perform the diagnosis.
- Clear codes with DDDL 7.0 or latest version.
ENGINE EXHAUST
To avoid injury from inhaling engine exhaust, always operate the engine in a well-ventilated area. Engine exhaust is toxic.
- Start and bring engine up to operating temperature (over 140°F/60°C).
- Verify operation is satisfactory and no warning lamps illuminate. If warning lamps illuminate, troubleshoot the codes. If assistance is required, call the Detroit Diesel Customer Support Center at 313–592–5800.
