Troubleshooting Flash Code 64

The following procedure will troubleshoot Flash Code 64.‪

Section 64.3.1
Turbocharger Overspeed Check

Perform the following steps to check for turbocharger overspeed:‪

  1. Disconnect turbo speed sensor connector.
  2. Measure resistance between cavity 3 (shield) and battery ground. See Figure "Turbo Speed Sensor Wiring" .

    1. If the resistance measurement is less than or equal to 5 Ω, replace the sensor. Verify repair. Refer to "64.3.2 Verify Repair" .
    2. If the resistance measurement is greater than 5 Ω, replace the wire, or ground properly. Verify repair. Refer to "64.3.2 Verify Repair" .

Section 64.3.2
Verify Repair

Perform the following steps to verify repairs for the EGR valve: ‪

  1. Connect all connectors.
  2. Start and run the engine.
  3. Road test the engine.
    1. If code 64 was not logged, no further troubleshooting is required.
    2. If code 64 was logged, please review this section starting with EGR-1. Refer to "10.16 Exhaust Gas Recirculation System (EGR-1) – Fault, Series 50 Engine" . Then call Detroit Diesel Technical Service, or try a test ECM.
