Oil Filter Adaptor

The oil filter adaptor secures the oil filter element and has a bypass valve which allows lubricating oil to circulate through the cylinder block even if the oil filter element is clogged. A thermostat has been incorporated to direct oil to the oil cooler when the temperature of the oil exceeds 80-84 ° C (26-27 ° F).‪

Replacement of Oil Filter Adaptor

To determine if replacement of the oil filter adaptor is necessary, perform the following procedure. See Figure "Flowchart for Replacement of Oil Filter Adaptor" .‪

Section 3.5.2
Removal of Oil Filter Adaptor

Remove the oil filter adaptor as follows:‪

  1. Drain the lubricating oil from the cylinder block. Refer to "13.4.1.1 Draining of Lubricating Oil with Lube Oil Filter Change" .
  2. Remove the oil filter element from the oil filter adaptor.
  3. Remove the oil cooler hoses (inlet and outlet) from the oil filter adaptor.
  4. Remove the oil filter adaptor from the cylinder block using J 42513. See Figure "Removal of Oil Filter Adaptor" .

Section 3.5.2.1
Cleaning of Oil Filter Adaptor

Clean the oil filter adaptor as follows:‪

  1. Clean the oil filter adaptor with clean fuel oil.
    cautions

    To avoid personal injury when blow drying, wear adequate eye protection (safety glasses or face plate) and do not exceed 276 kPa (40 lb/in. 2 ) air pressure.‪

  2. Dry the oil filter adaptor with compressed air.
Section 3.5.2.2
Inspection of Oil Filter Adaptor

Inspect the oil filter adaptor as follows:‪

  1. Visually check the oil filter adaptor for cracked surfaces.
    1. If the oil filter adaptor has cracked surfaces, replace the component. Refer to "3.5.3 Installation of Oil Filter Adaptor" .
    2. If the oil filter adaptor has no cracked surfaces, reuse the component. Refer to "3.5.3 Installation of Oil Filter Adaptor" .
  2. Visually check the oil filter adaptor for any physical damage.
    1. If the oil filter adaptor has been physically damaged, replace the component. Refer to "3.5.3 Installation of Oil Filter Adaptor" .
    2. If the oil filter adaptor has not been physically damaged, reuse the component. Refer to "3.5.3 Installation of Oil Filter Adaptor" .

Section 3.5.3
Installation of Oil Filter Adaptor

Install the oil filter adaptor as follows:‪

  1. Install the oil filter adaptor to the cylinder block. Torque to 60 N · m (44 lb · ft). See Figure "Installation of Oil Filter Adaptor" .

  2. Install the oil cooler hoses (inlet and outlet) to the oil filter adaptor.
  3. Refill crankcase with lubricating oil and install a new oil filter element. Refer to "13.4.1.2 Engine Crankcase Refill and Installation of Lube Oil Filter" .
  4. Run engine to verify repairs.
