Alternator
Perform the following procedures for removal and installation of the alternator.
Section 8.3.1
Alternator Removal
Remove the alternator as follows:
- Disconnect the batteries.
- Release the tension on the poly-V belt and remove the belt from the alternator pulley. Refer to "8.2.1 Poly-V Belt Removal" .
- Disconnect the wiring harness at the alternator.
- Remove the lower alternator mounting bolt, nut and washers. See Figure

- Remove the strap mounting bolt and remove the mounting strap and alternator, as an assembly, from the oil filter.
- Remove the upper alternator mounting bolt and washer. Remove the mounting strap from the alternator.
- Check the belt for excessive wear and replace it if necessary.
Section 8.3.2
Alternator Installation
Install the alternator as follows:
- Position the mounting strap on the alternator and install the upper alternator mounting bolt and washer. Tighten the nut 65 N·m (48 lb·ft). See Figure

Figure 2. Alternator Mounting
- Position the other end of the mounting strap on the oil filter and install the strap mounting bolt and washer. Tighten the bolt 40 N·m (30 lb·ft).
- Position the alternator on the mounting bracket and install the lower alternator mounting bolt, nut, and washers. Tighten the nut 50 N·m (37 lb·ft).
- With the belt tension relaxed, install the poly-V belt on the alternator pulley. Release the belt tensioner, automatically putting the correct tension on the belt.
- Connect the wiring harness to the alternator, as removed. Tighten the output terminal nut 11.3 N·m(100 lb·in). Tighten the ground terminal nut 7.3 N·m (65 lb·in). For other terminals, tighten the nut 2.3 N·m (20 lb·in).
- Spray any exposed terminal connectors with dielectric red enamel or equivalent, as listed in Table
"Approved Dielectric Red Enamel"
.
