Camshaft Fuel Pump Drive Gear

The camshaft fuel pump drive gear is located under the hydraulic pump cover on the front of the engine. The camshaft fuel pump drive gear is attached to the DVB pump drive. The fuel pump is driven off the crankshaft drive gear. ‪

Section 1.21.1
Replacement of Camshaft Fuel Pump Drive Gear

To determine if replacement of the camshaft fuel pump drive gear is necessary, perform the following procedure ( see Figure "Camshaft Fuel Pump Drive Gear Replacement Flowchart" ): ‪

Section 1.21.2
Removal of Camshaft Fuel Pump Drive Gear

Remove camshaft fuel pump drive gear as follows:‪

1. Remove engine fan belts and fan belt tensioner. Refer to "13.4.7 Drive Belts" .
2. Remove front engine mount. Refer to "1.1.2 Cleaning and Removal of Cylinder Block" .
3. Remove crankshaft pulley. Refer to "1.11.2 Removal of Crankshaft Pulley" .
4. Remove vibration damper and splash ring. Refer to "1.10.2 Removal of Crankshaft Vibration Damper" .
5. Remove the five upper front cover mounting bolts and the four DVB pump bolts. Refer to "1.23.2 Removal of DVB Hydraulic Pump" .
6. Remove the upper front cover and mounting gasket. Discard the gasket.
7. Remove the three mounting bolts securing the DVB pump drive gear to the camshaft fuel pump drive gear. Refer to "1.23.2 Removal of DVB Hydraulic Pump" .
8. Remove the camshaft fuel pump drive gear from the camshaft. See Figure "Camshaft Fuel Pump Drive Gear Removal" .

Section 1.21.2.1
Inspection of Camshaft Fuel Pump Drive Gear

Inspect the camshaft fuel pump drive gear as follows:‪

1. Clean all of the removed parts in clean fuel oil.

   To avoid injury from flying debris when using compressed air, wear adequate eye protection (face shield or safety goggles) and do not exceed 40 psi (276 kPa) air pressure.‪

2. Dry with compressed air.
3. Inspect the camshaft fuel pump drive gear for cracks, broken, chipped teeth, or damage to mounting bolt holes.
4. If the camshaft fuel pump drive gear is damaged, it must be replaced.

Section 1.21.3
Installation of Camshaft Fuel Pump Drive Gear

Install the camshaft fuel pump drive gear as follows:‪

1. Align the dowel pin hole on the camshaft fuel pump drive gear with the camshaft.

   Note: No timing mark alignment is required between the camshaft fuel pump drive gear and the fuel pump drive gear.

2. Position the DVB drive gear over the camshaft fuel pump drive gear, install three mounting bolts, and torque them to 30-38 N · m (22-28 lb · ft).
3. Install a new upper front cover gasket.
4. Install the upper front cover. Torque the five front cover mounting bolts and four DVB pump mounting bolts to 58-73 N · m (43-54 lb · ft).
5. Install the splash ring and vibration damper. Refer to "1.10.3 Installation of Crankshaft Vibration Damper" .
6. Install the crankshaft pulley. Refer to "1.11.3 Installation of Crankshaft Pulley" .
7. Install the front engine mount.
8. Install the engine fan belts and fan belt tensioner. Refer to "13.4.7 Drive Belts" .
