Hengst Breather Filter

The following sections deal with removing and installing the Hengst® breather filter.‪

Section 7.7.1
Removal of Hengst Filter and Bracket

Perform the following steps to remove the breather filter:‪

1. Disconnect the breather piping from the top of the Hengst filter. See Figure "Removal of Hengst Filter and Related Parts" .

   Note: If only removing the centrifugal filter, go to step . Remaining steps are not necessary.

2. Unsnap the filter cap and remove the spring and diaphragm from centrifugal filter. Remove the two assembly bolts from the breather filter housing assembly, and remove the centrifugal filter. See Figure "Hengst Filter Assembly" .

3. Unclip the three plastic clamps holding the breather piping to the bracket and remove the piping. See Figure "Removal of Hengst Filter and Related Parts" .
4. Remove the two bolts from the air compressor and the block that are securing the piping bracket and remove the piping bracket.
5. Remove the three M8 x 35 mm bolts holding the breather filter to the flywheel housing.
6. Remove the breather housing from the block tube housing on flywheel housing.
7. Remove the breather housing gasket, seal ring, and washer, if applicable. See Figure "New Breather Housing Assembly" . If breather contains the former style of seal ring, remove it from the groove in the breather housing. Discard gasket, seal ring, and washer. See Figure "Former Seal Ring Location" .

8. Clean any residual oil from the seal ring groove in the breather housing and from the mounting surface at the flywheel housing using a common solvent.
9. Remove the two M8 x 25 mm bolts holding the breather tube housing to the block. See Figure "Engine Block Breather Tube Housing" .

10. Remove the M8 x 25 mm bolt attaching the air compressor option bracket to the breather tube housing. See Figure "Engine Block Breather Tube Housing" .
11. Remove the engine block breather tube housing and seal ring. Discard seal ring.

Section 7.7.2
Installation of Hengst Filter

Perform the following steps to install the Hengst filter:‪

1. Install the engine block breather tube housing and new seal ring to the block using two M8 x 25 mm bolts. Torque bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb·ft). See Figure "Engine Block Breather Tube Housing" .

   Note: If installing centrifugal filter only, go to step . Remaining steps are not necessary.

2. Install the centrifugal filter, spring, and diaphragm into the breather housing and secure with two assembly bolts. Torque to 12 N·m (9 lb·ft). See Figure "Hengst Filter Assembly" .

3. Install cap on centrifugal filter.
4. Install the new breather housing gasket between the breather housing and the flywheel housing. See Figure "New Breather Housing Assembly" .

5. Install the new seal ring washer at the lower bolt location of the breather housing. See Figure "New Breather Housing Assembly" .
6. Add the new washer at the upper bolt location behind the breather housing to compensate for the thickness of the breather housing gasket. See Figure "New Breather Housing Assembly" .
7. Insert the upper opening of the breather housing onto the engine block breather tube housing.
8. Install all three M8 x 35 mm breather housing bolts and torque to 25 N·m (18 lb·ft).

9. Attach the filter piping bracket to the air compressor and block as follows:
   1. Install a M14 x 60 mm bolt with a spacer at the engine block. Torque to 100 N·m (74 lb·ft).
   2. Install a M10 x 35 mm bolt at the air compressor. Torque to 60 N·m (44 lb·ft).
10. Connect filter pipe to the top of the Hengst filter.
11. Secure filter pipe with three plastic clamps to pipe bracket. See Figure "Installation of Hengst Filter and Related Parts" .
