Crankshaft Position Sensor and Bracket

The Crankshaft Position Sensor and its bracket is located on the flywheel housing. In most cases the crankshaft position sensor bracket is replaced only when the flywheel housing is replaced.‪

Section 2.7.1
Crankshaft Position Sensor and Bracket Removal

Remove the Crankshaft Position Sensor and Bracket as follows:‪

1. Pull the spring bushing from the crankshaft position sensor bracket. See Figure "Crankshaft Position Sensor Bracket Removal / Installation" .

   2. Shear Bolt (2 qty.)‪	5. Reference Hole on the Flywheel Edge‪
   3. Spring Bushing‪

2. Remove the end cover from the inspection hole in the lower right side of the flywheel housing.
3. Attach the engine barring tool J 46392 to the flywheel housing.
4. Using the engine barring tool, rotate the crankshaft until a reference hole on the edge of the flywheel is exactly centered in the flywheel housing hole, where the new sensor bracket will be installed. See Figure "Crankshaft Position Sensor Bracket Removal / Installation" .
5. Block the crankshaft to prevent it from turning.
6. If applicable, remove the shear bolts holding the old crankshaft position bracket to the flywheel housing, then remove the old bracket.
7. Discard crankshaft position sensor if damaged.

Section 2.7.2
Crankshaft Position Sensor and Bracket Installation

Install the Crankshaft Position Sensor and Bracket as follows:‪

1. Install the new bracket onto the flywheel housing, making sure the hole in the bracket is centered exactly over the reference hole on the edge of the flywheel. See Figure "Crankshaft Position Sensor Bracket Removal / Installation" .
2. Install new shear bolts, and tighten them until they shear off.
3. Install the spring bushing, and push it in as far as the stop.
4. Install new crankshaft position sensor. Push it in until it bottoms out on sensor bracket.
5. Remove the engine barring tool from the flywheel housing.
6. Install the end cover onto the flywheel housing inspection hole.
