Fuel System Pump
The following steps will remove, inspect and install the fuel system pump.
Section 2.3.1
Fuel Pump Removal
Remove the fuel pump as follows:
- Disconnect the fuel supply line from the fuel filter header to the supply manifold. See Figure
"Supply Pump Removal"
.
- Loosen fitting and remove fuel filter header to supply pump line.
- Cap the fuel filter header and supply pump openings.

- Loosen three bolts securing the supply pump to the high pressure pump. Remove the supply pump.
- If it is necessary to remove the supply manifold, refer to .

Supply Pump Tappet Cleaning and Inspection
Inspect the supply pump tappet. Observe for straightness, burrs or cracks. See Figure "Tappet Inspection" .

Section 2.3.2
Fuel Pump Installation
If it was necessary to remove the supply manifold. Remove the fuel pump as follows:
- Install supply pump to high pressure pump housing. Secure with three volts. Torque to specifications. See Figure
"Supply Pump Installation"

- Loosen three bolts securing the supply pump to the high pressure pump. Remove the supply pump.
- Mount the fuel filter header as follows:
- Insert the header at the crankcase mounting pad. Fasten the header using the two mounting bolts and washers. Torque to specifications. Refer to "Additional Information" , Specifications.
- Remove the nylon cap above the fuel strainer and observe the check ball. If the check ball is not in this location, priming pump will not work.
- Install the fuel filter header to the supply pump line as follows:
- Remove the protective caps from the fuel supply rail and the fuel filter header port.
- Position the line to the supply pump and fuel filter header. Secure with hollow screws and new copper sealing gaskets. Torque to specifications. Refer to "Additional Information" , Specifications.
- Install the new strainer as follows:
- Lubricate the threads of the strainer cover and install a new O-ring.
- Install the strainer in the cover and hand-tighten into the fuel filter header. Install the strainer with the open end toward the filter header. See Figure "Fuel Filter Strainer" .

- Prime the pump.
