Section 32.3
Troubleshooting Flash Code 32
The following procedure will troubleshoot Flash Code 32.
Section 32.3.1
Determine Failure Mode Identifier (3 or 4)
Perform the following steps to determine FMI.
- Turn ignition ON.
- Plug in diagnostic data reader (DDR) into the diagnostic data link (DDL).
- Read codes.
- If code 238/4 or 239/4 is logged, reprogram the ECM. Refer to "32.3.3 Verify Repairs" .
- If code 238/3 or 239/3 is logged, refer to "32.3.2 Check for Short to Battery" .
Section 32.3.2
Check for Short to Battery
Perform the following steps to determine failure.
- Turn vehicle ignition OFF.
- Disconnect vehicle harness connector.
- Turn ignition ON.
- Remove CEL bulb and SEL bulb.
- Measure voltage between B2 (#509) and a good ground. See Figure
"ECM Vehicle Harness Connector"
.
Figure 1. ECM Vehicle Harness Connector
- Measure voltage between B1 and a good ground.
- If either measurement was greater than 0.5 volts, the wire that had the reading is shorted to some voltage source. Replace the wire(s). Refer to "32.3.3 Verify Repairs" .
- If no measurement was greater than 0.5 volts, contact Detroit Diesel Technical Service.
Section 32.3.3
Verify Repairs
Perform the following steps to verify repairs.
- Connect all connectors.
- Start and run the engine.
