Maintenance of Series 50G Engines for Generator Set
Failure to adjust valve lash or replace spark plug ignition boot and spring assemblies when required may result in inefficient engine operation.
Series 50G genset components must be maintained at various intervals.
Section 13.8.1
Daily Maintenance for Genset
The following components must be maintained daily:
- Lubricating oil, refer to "11.5 Operating Conditions"
- Oil pressure, refer to "11.5 Operating Conditions"
- Turbocharger, refer to "13.5.5 Turbocharger"
- Drive belts, refer to "13.5.7 Drive Belts"
- Fuel lines and hoses, refer to "13.5.3 Fuel Lines and Flexible Hoses"
Section 13.8.2
250 hrs (or 3 months) Interval Maintenance for Genset
Every 250 hrs (or 3 months) the following components must be replaced:
- Lubricating oil, refer to "11.5 Operating Conditions"
- Lube oil filter, refer to "13.5.1 Lubricating Oil"
Section 13.8.3
1,000 hrs (or 12 months) Interval Maintenance for Genset
Every 1,000 hrs (or 12 months) the following components must be replaced:
- Air cleaner, refer to "13.5.9 Air Cleaner"

1,500 hrs (or 12 months) Interval Maintenance for Genset
Every 1,500 hrs (or 12 months) the following components must be replaced:
- Spark plug boots, refer to "15.10 Spark Plugs"

3,800 hrs (or 24 months) Interval Maintenance for Genset
Every 3,800 hrs (or 24 months) the following must be replaced:
- Coolant, refer to "13.5.4 Cooling System"

250 hrs (or 3 months) Interval Maintenance for Genset
Every 250 hrs (or 3 months), the following components must be maintained:
- Crankcase breather, refer to "13.5.25 Crankcase Breather"
- Drive belts, refer to "13.5.7 Drive Belts"
- Air cleaner, refer to "13.5.9 Air Cleaner"
- Battery, refer to "13.5.6 Battery"
Section 13.8.7
500 hrs (or 6 months) Interval Maintenance for Genset
Every 500 hrs (or 6 months), the following components must be maintained:
- Crankcase pressure, refer to "13.5.22 Crankcase Pressure"
- Coolant filter/inhibitor, refer to "13.5.4 Cooling System"
- Charge air cooler, refer to "6.7.1 Repair or Replacement of Charge Air Cooler"
- Fan hub, refer to "13.5.23 Fan Hub"

1,000 hrs (or 12 months) Interval Maintenance for Genset
Every 1,000 hrs (or 12 months), the following components must be maintained:
- Thermostat, refer to "13.5.24 Thermostats and Seals"
- PSV valve, refer to "2.38 Pulse Width Modulated Stepper Motor Valve (Psv) for 1998 and Later Series 50G Automotive Engines"
- Fuel lines and hoses, refer to "13.5.3 Fuel Lines and Flexible Hoses"
- Battery charging alternator, refer to "13.5.20 Battery Charging Alternator"
- Engine and generator mounts, refer to "13.5.21 Engine and Transmission Mounts"
- Radiator, refer to "13.5.18 Radiator"
- Exhaust system, refer to "13.5.16 Exhaust System"
Section 13.8.9
1,500 hrs (or 12 months) Interval Maintenance for Genset
Every 1,500 hrs (or 12 months), whichever comes first, the following components must be maintained:
- Spark plug ignition boot and spring assemblies; inspect, refer to "15.12 Ignition Boot Assembly"
- Intake and exhaust valve lash; refer to "12.4 Valve Lash for the Series 50G Engine"
Section 13.8.10
3,800 hrs (or 24 months) Interval Maintenance for Genset
Every 3,800 hrs (or 24 months), the following components must be maintained:
- Fuel mixer, refer to "2.39 Overview of the Low Pressure Fuel System for the Series 50G Generator Set Engine (1998 and Later)"
- Vibration damper, refer to "1.13.2.1 Inspection of Crankshaft Pulley"
