Oil Pickup Tube
An oil pickup tube, with screen, is attached to the cylinder block. The screen end of the oil pickup tube assembly is supported with a bracket mounted to the cylinder block.
Section 3.6.1
Replacement of Oil Pickup Tube
To determine if replacement of the oil pickup tube is necessary, perform the following procedure. See Figure "Flowchart for Replacement of Oil Pickup Tube" .

Section 3.6.2
Removal of Oil Pickup Tube
Remove the oil pickup tube as follows:
- Remove the oil pan. Refer to "3.2.2 Removal of Oil Pan" .
- Remove the four bolts securing the baffle to the cylinder block. See Figure

- Remove the retaining bolt from oil pickup tube elbow.
- Remove the oil pickup tube and baffle as an assembly from the cylinder block.
- Remove and discard O-rings.
Section 3.6.3
Cleaning of Oil Pickup Tube
Clean the oil pickup tube as follows:
- Clean the oil pickup tube and related parts with clean fuel oil.
To avoid personal injury when blow drying, wear adequate eye protection (safety glasses or face plate) and do not exceed 276 kPa (40 lb/in. 2 ) air pressure.
- Dry the oil pickup tube and related parts with compressed air.
Section 3.6.3.1
Inspection of Oil Pickup Tube
Inspect the oil pickup tube as follows:
- Visually check the oil pickup tube for cracks, nicks, or kinks.
- If the oil pickup tube is cracked, nicked, or kinked, replace the component. Refer to "3.6.4 Installation of Oil Pickup Tube" .
- If the oil pickup tube is not cracked, nicked, or kinked, proceed with step 2 of inspection.
- Visually check the oil pickup tube screen for clogging.
- If the oil pickup tube screen is clogged, clean as necessary. Refer to "3.6.4 Installation of Oil Pickup Tube" .
- If the oil pickup tube screen is not clogged, reuse the component. Refer to "3.6.4 Installation of Oil Pickup Tube" .
Section 3.6.4
Installation of Oil Pickup Tube
Install the oil pickup tube as follows:
- Install oil pickup tube elbow onto the cylinder block and secure with retaining bolt. Torque retaining bolt to 10-11 N · m (7-8 lb · ft). See Figure
"Installation of Oil Pickup Tube"

- Insert the oil pickup tube and baffle assembly into the oil pickup tube elbow and secure assembly to the cylinder block with four bolts. Torque to 10-11 N · m (7-8 lb · ft).
- Install the oil pan. Refer to "3.2.3 Installation of Oil Pan" .
- Run engine to verify repairs.
