Section 3.7
Oil Pressure Valve
Oil is directed through an oil pressure valve to the full-flow filter and through appropriate oil passages machined in the crankcase to the main bearing carriers, camshaft bearings, and to the turbocharger.
Section 3.7.1
Replacement of Oil Pressure Valve
To determine if replacement of the oil pressure valve is necessary, perform the following procedure. See Figure "Flowchart for Replacement of Oil Pressure Valve" .
Figure 1. Flowchart for Replacement of Oil Pressure Valve
Section 3.7.2
Replacement of Oil Pressure Valve
Replace the oil pressure valve as follows:
- Drain the lubricating oil from the crankcase. Refer to "13.4.1.1 Draining of Lubricating Oil with Lube Oil Filter Change" .
- Remove the oil pan. Refer to "3.2.2 Removal of Oil Pan" .
- Remove snap ring from cylinder block. See Figure

Section 3.7.3
Cleaning of Oil Pressure Valve
Clean the oil pressure valve as follows:
- Clean the oil pressure valve and related parts with clean fuel oil.
To avoid personal injury when blow drying, wear adequate eye protection (safety glasses or face plate) and do not exceed 276 kPa (40 lb/in. 2 ) air pressure.
- Dry the oil pressure valve and related parts with compressed air.
Section 3.7.3.1
Inspection of Oil Pressure Valve
Inspect the oil pressure valve as follows:
- Visually check the oil pressure valve for clogging.
- If the oil pressure valve is clogged, clean as necessary. Refer to "3.7.4 Installation of Oil Pressure Valve" .
- If the oil pressure valve is not clogged, proceed with step 2 of inspection.
- Visually check the oil pressure valve spring for cracks or physical damage.
- If the oil pressure valve spring has been cracked or physically damaged, replace the assembly. Refer to "3.7.4 Installation of Oil Pressure Valve" .
- If the oil pressure valve spring has not been cracked or physically damaged, proceed with step 3 of inspection.
- Visually check the oil pressure valve casing for cracks or physical damage.
- If the oil pressure valve casing has been cracked or physically damaged, replace the assembly. Refer to "3.7.4 Installation of Oil Pressure Valve" .
- If the oil pressure valve casing has not been cracked or physically damaged, reuse the assembly. Refer to "3.7.4 Installation of Oil Pressure Valve" .
Section 3.7.4
Installation of Oil Pressure Valve
Install the oil pressure valve as follows:
- Install oil pressure valve assembly into the cylinder block.
To avoid personal injury when removing the snap ring, wear adequate eye protection (face plate or safety glasses). The snap ring is under spring tension.
- Install the snap ring using snap ring pliers.
- Install the oil pan. Refer to "3.2.3 Installation of Oil Pan" .
- Refill the crankcase with lubricating oil. Refer to "13.4.1.2 Engine Crankcase Refill and Installation of Lube Oil Filter" .
- Run engine to verify repair.
