Section 72.1
Description of Flash Code 77
Flash Code 77 is used for several DDEC information codes.
The SAE J1587 equivalent codes for Flash Code 77 are listed in Table "Flash Code 77 (1 of 2)" and Table "Flash Code 77 (2of 2)" :
PID / FMI |
Description |
Troubleshooting |
p 73 1 |
Fire pump pressure below range Indicates the water pump pressure fell below a calibrated value. |
No troubleshooting available for this code. Possible faults could be restricted water supply of failing pump. |
p 81 0 |
Exhaust back pressure above range |
Indicates the exhaust back pressure measured was above (FMI 0) or below (FMI 1) a calibrated value. Back pressure too high is usually a sign of a restricted exhaust or failing muffler/converter. |
p 81 1 |
Exhaust back pressure below range |
|
p 81 12 |
Exhaust back pressure at rampdown threshold |
Indicates the engine derated due to high exhaust back pressure. This could have been presented as a sudden power loss. This code is not a DDEC fault and should be treated as a information code only. |
p 81 3 |
Exhaust back pressure failed high |
Indicates the signal voltage to the ECM/ECU went above or below a programmed limit. Typically, less than 25 V for FMI 4 and greater than 4.75 V for FMI3. Refer to "72.2 Troubleshooting Flash Code 77, PID 81, FMI 3" for troubleshooting. |
p 81 4 |
Exhaust back pressure failed low |
|
p 95 1 |
Fuel filter differential pressure below range |
Fuel filter or oil filter differential pressure sensor fell below calibrated limit. Not likely to show up on any on-highway engines. These sensors are used as part of the Maintenance Alert System. |
p 99 1 |
Oil filter differential pressure below range |
|
p 100 0 |
Engine oil pressure above range |
Indicates that DDEC detected oil pressure too high following shutdown. Typically, this is caused by a stuck sensor. The code is generated on the next ignition cycle and stays active for the duration of the ignition cycle. |

Description |
Troubleshooting |
p 102 1 |
Turbo boost pressure below range |
Indicates one of these parameters fell below a calibrated limit. Details of these codes should be recorded and technical service contacted, since it is unlikely these codes will be used on highway engines. |
p 105 1 |
Inlet manifold temperature below range |
|
p 107 1 |
Air filter differential pressure below range |
|
p 108 0 |
Barometric pressure above range |
Currently these codes should not log with on-highway engines. |
p 108 1 |
Barometric pressure below range |
|
p 109 0 |
Coolant pressure above range |
Not used for Series 50 or Series 60. |
p 110 1 |
Coolant temperature below range |
Neither of these codes should be seen for on-highway engines. |
p 111 0 |
Coolant level above range |
|
p 171 0 |
Ambient air temperature above range |
Neither of these codes should be seen for on-highway engines. |
p 171 1 |
Ambient air temperature below range |
|
p 172 1 |
Air inlet temperature below range |
|
p 174 0 |
TCO temperature above range (temporary code) |
Refer to code/section 49 – 404/0. |
p 174 0 |
Fuel temperature above range |
Indicates fuel temperature exceeded DDC limits for that particular engine. No DDEC troubleshooting is suggested. High fuel temperature should be reviewed with the OEM to determine if any additional fuel coolers need to be considered. |
p 174 1 |
TCO temperature below range (temporary code) |
Refer to code/section 48 – 404 1. |
p 174 1 |
Fuel temperature below range |
Indicates the fuel temperature fell below a calibrated range. No troubleshooting is suggest. |
p 175 1 |
Engine oil temperature below range |
Indicates the engine oil temperature fell below a calibrated range. No troubleshooting is suggest. |
p 222 14 |
Anti theft fault present |
Contact DDC Customer Support Center (313-592-5800). |
p 251 10 |
Clock module abnormal rate of change |
Codes indicate internal faults with the clock components. Contact DDC Customer Support Center (313-592-5800). |
p 251 13 |
Clock module failure |
|
p 252 10 |
Clock module abnormal rate of change |
|
p 252 13 |
Clock module failure |
|
p 354 0 |
Relative humidity above range |
Currently, these codes should not log with on-highway engines. |
p 354 1 |
Relative humidity below range |
At this time, this code is logged without illuminating a CEL/AWL.
There is an established procedure to troubleshoot only Flash Code 77, p 81/3 (refer to "72.2 Troubleshooting Flash Code 77, PID 81, FMI 3" .) and p 81/4 (refer to "72.3.1 Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor Failed Low" ). There is no established procedure to troubleshoot other variations of this code.
