Troubleshooting Flash Code 64, PID 103/FMI 8/0

For all EGR related codes, always refer to "20.18 Exhaust Gas Recirculation System Basic Checks for Series 60 Engines" , “Exhaust Gas Recirculation System Basic Checks,”and perform all the checks.‪

The following procedure will troubleshoot Flash Code 64 p103/8 or 0.‪

Section 63.2.1
Turbocharger Overspeed Check

Perform the following steps to check for turbocharger overspeed:‪

  1. Disconnect turbo speed sensor connector. See Figure "Turbo Speed Sensor" .

  2. Measure resistance between cavity 2 and battery ground. See Figure "Turbo Speed Sensor Wiring" .

    1. If the resistance measurement is greater than or equal to 5 Ω, replace the sensor. Verify repair. Refer to "63.2.1.1 Verify Repairs" .
    2. If the resistance measurement is less than 5 Ω, replace the wire. Verify repair. Refer to "63.2.1.1 Verify Repairs" .
Section 63.2.1.1
Verify Repairs

Perform the following steps to verify repairs for the EGR valve: ‪

  1. Connect all connectors.
  2. Start and run the engine.
  3. Road test the engine.
    1. If code 64 was not logged, no further troubleshooting is required.
    2. If code 64 was logged, refer to "20.18 Exhaust Gas Recirculation System Basic Checks for Series 60 Engines" , “Exhaust Gas Recirculation System Basic Checks,”and perform all the checks Then call the Detroit Diesel Customer Supprt Center (313–592–5800) or try a test ECM/ECU.
    3. If checks passed for the VPOD test (refer to "20.18 Exhaust Gas Recirculation System Basic Checks for Series 60 Engines" ), no further troubleshooting is required.
    4. If checks were not performed (refer to "20.18 Exhaust Gas Recirculation System Basic Checks for Series 60 Engines" ), perform those checks first.
